If you can’t figure out how to make a minecraft server, the best bet would be:
Super affordable prices, 100% reliable hosting, and easy setup and management!

Troubleshooting near the bottom!

To setup the Java Path:
1) Start
2) Right click “computer”
3) “Properties”
4) “Advanced System Setttings
5) “Environmental Variables…”
6) Scroll down until you find “path”
7) Click “edit”
8) Enter the following in the text box called “variable value:”

;”c:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin”

*I forgot to mention… YOU NEED TO HAVE 64-BIT JAVA.
You can download it here:

Enter the following into the “run.bat” file:

“C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe” -Xms1024m -Xmx1024m -jar “Minecraft_Server.exe”

FOR MINECRAFT 1.7.2, if the above doesn’t work:
“C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe” -Xms1024m -Xmx1024m -jar “Minecraft_Server.1.7.2.exe”

“C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe” -Xms1024m -Xmx1024m -jar “Minecraft_Server.1.7.2.jar”

“C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe” -Xms1024m -Xmx1024m -jar “Minecraft_Server.1.7.2.exe”

For those who’s run doesn’t work, you may need to tweak it yourself.

It works like this:

“C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe” -Xms1024m -Xmx1024m -jar “Minecraft_Server.1.6.2.exe”
The first part, “C:\Program Files\Java\jre7\bin\javaw.exe”, is the location of Java
If you have Java 6 it would say “jre6”

For 32-bit it would say “C:\Program Files (x86)”

The last part “Minecraft_Server.1.7.2.exe” is just whatever you call the server file
if I call it “server” I need to change it in the code

You can connect, but your friends can’t?
1) Make sure that you’re giving them the right IP address, it would be the number you get if you google search “what is my IP”
2) Make sure your server is running properly, and you’re not getting errors.
3) Check to see if you have the most recent file, if you’re getting the error “outdated server”
4) Make sure you’ve set up port forwarding correctly. If after everything they still can’t connect, this is the issue. Port forwarding varies from router to router and internet provider to internet provider, so there’s not really one single tutorial that would be the same for everyone. A good resource is

“ipconfig” not recognized as an internal or external command? To fix that you can do either of the following:

1) Open up your start menu,
2) Type “cmd”, right click on it and “Run as Administrator”,
3) Type in “ipconfig /all” without the quotations.

If that doesn’t work, try this:

1) Find the “Network Internet Access” icon in the notification tray,
2) Right click and select “Open Network and Sharing Center”,
3) Click “Change adapter settings”,
4) Find your connection (ethernet or wifi) and right click on “Properties”,
5) Scroll down and make sure “Internet Protocol Version 4” is checked.

okay so I updated to 64bit java
I have 16 gb of ram
I changed it to run 2gb or whatever (changed both the 1024s to 2048s)
double clicked
nothing. It opened and immediately closed.
I tried that Nic guy’s tutorial too and had issues with this same “run.bat”
file :/

EDIT: Now I can’t even open the original server file.

minecraft_server.jar Anybody have a solution?

The Scout says:

Ok, so if anyone gets the error where you can’t find the specified pathway,
here is what is wrong.

Java came out with an update that changed the directory of the files.
“C:Program Files (x86)Javajdk1.8.0_25binJava.exe” -Xms1024m -Xmx1024m
-jar “minecraft_server.1.8.exe”
THIS is the correct 1.8 code. If it does not work for you still, well that
sucks for you.

Now, if you get the error after running, FAILED TO BIND PORT, than just
dekete the ip you put in your server properties, minecraft will
automatically load YOUR Ip into that slot, so you don’t have to worry. This
should help, there are like, NO solutions to this for 1.8 on the internet,
because Java updated. I figured this out with some time, and some computer
knowledge. If you have any problems, tell me!!! ^_^

nothing like yours,

also when i downloaded the file it wouldn’t do anything at first i had to
open a ELUA thing and change a setting to true, in order for it to open
properly :-/ sort of a cave man accept button.
