Brandon Stucki says:

I do branch mining as well.   I usually do a stair well down to rock bottom then go up 8 steps and mine a long hall and branch off of it.  Diamond is usually found between 0 and 10.   I have never failed to find diamond this way.   Sometimes it takes a bit.

I always keep a bucket of water and lava. The bucket of lava for destroying my enemies and lighting up caverns below me (often both at the same time!)  and the water for when I inevitably fall in my own lava flows.

M Travis says:

A quicker way to get rid of gravel without using your shovel, if you have at least one block of stone below the column of it, is to clear the block under the stone holding the gravel and put a torch or a minecart rail in the space underneath. Then break the stone holding the gravel and it wall fall and break and you can loot it.

At 9:05 why don't you mine strips every 3 blocks and not 2 since the ores spawn in 2×2 veins?
